The Heating Plant Technician I program is designed to train students to operate and maintain heating plants of boiler gauge pressure (steam or other vapors) in which the maximum allowable working pressure is limited to fifteen pounds (15-psig) or where vapor is not generated in a boiler in which the liquid temperature does not exceed two hundred and fifty Fahrenheit and the liquid pressure does not exceed one hundred and sixty pounds (160-psig) or a low pressure boiler plant having an aggregate of not more than 5,000 square feet of boiler heating surface.
Hands-on experience is gained through VIM’s internship program and field trips.
Students will receive education and training that will aid them in preparing for the Low Pressure Boiler Operator Examination. Completion of this course prepares the student to begin a career in building operations and maintenance that require at least a low pressure boiler operator license.
